Cuttle CIC
Job Summary
Job Description
Cuttle CIC is a community interest company based at LCB Depot in Leicester. We make collaborative artworks from waste materials with the public, and we deliver workshops, commissions and sustainability training across Leicester and the Midlands.
In our first year we have won a National Lottery Project Grant from Arts Council England and delivered a National Lottery Heritage Fund commission. Our current touring project is running across venues in the city, and our founder holds an Arts Council England endorsement and a two-year studio award. Very few organisations of our age hold that record.
We are now building our first board, and we want people who can match that pace.
This is a genuine opportunity to shape an organisation at the point where its governance is being designed rather than inherited. The decisions this board takes in its first two years will determine what Cuttle becomes: how it grows, what it turns down, and whether it reaches the scale its work deserves. That is a rarer thing to be offered than a seat on an established board.
We are especially interested in people with experience in finance, accountancy, charity or company governance, fundraising, or community development. We would also welcome people who have taken part in participatory arts or community programmes and want a say in how they are run. Previous board experience is welcome but not required, and we will support anyone new to governance.
We are committed to building a board that reflects the communities we work with, and we particularly encourage applications from people currently under-represented in arts governance.
Job Requirements
We are looking for people who care about participatory art, environmental sustainability, or both, and who bring at least one of the following: financial or accountancy experience, company or charity governance, fundraising, legal or HR knowledge, or lived experience of the communities we work with.
You would commit to an initial two-year term, renewable by agreement, and attend four board meetings a year in Leicester or online, plus reading papers in advance. Around eight to ten hours a year.
You must be willing to be appointed as a company director at Companies House, be 16 or over, and not disqualified from acting as a director.
Previous board experience is not required. Directors are unpaid, with reasonable expenses reimbursed.
