Job Summary

Towner is seeking to appoint an experienced Activity Plan Consultant for the National Lottery Heritage Fund Development Phase of Towner Seven Sisters at Black Robin Farm, a new cultural destination near the Seven Sisters chalk cliffs in the South Downs National Park. Fee of up to £25,000.

Job Description

This consultant role will work closely with Towner staff, the professional team and other project consultants, to research and develop a full NLHF Activity Plan with an accompanying Action Plan table appendix, in accordance with the latest NLHF best practice Activity Plan guidance.

Key Deliverables as follows:

  • Review and follow up on ideas and outline proposals for project activities, including with external stakeholders and current Learning Team partners.
  • Work with the Audience Development Manager to capture thorough, additional audience consultation and development to inform the Activity Plan proposals.
  • Contribute to development of interpretation and exhibition design plans to ensure that proposals will meet a broad range of audience needs identified through the activity planning.
  • Develop, cost and agree detailed plans for project activities, including target audiences, in consultation with local people, potential audiences, partners, volunteers and other stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with the Business Planning Consultant on target audiences and visitor number forecasts as well as feeding into site management planning.
  • Coordinate with the Evaluation Consultant on activity outputs and outcomes to inform development of an Evaluation Framework.
  • Prepare the draft Activity Plan and appendices, (in accordance with NLHF guidelines, funding priorities for this project and the Approved Purposes of the Development grant) for an NLHF Development Phase Review (likely March 2027)
  • Prepare the final draft Activity Plan and Action Plan for Towner Executive sign off, in time for submission with the Second-Round application (expected to be May 2027).
  • Provide progress updates for BRF Project Board meetings.
  • Attend Project Board and other relevant meetings as required, to report on progress and to seek decisions.

Job Requirements

  • Be fully versed in the latest NLHF Activity Plan guidance and have detailed understanding of NLHF’s four investment principles that are detailed within https://www.heritagefund.org.uk/about/heritage-2033-our-10-year-strategy – Heritage 2033, their 10-year strategic plan.
  • Significant practical knowledge and experience of audience development, stakeholder consultation, activity planning, timetabling, and of writing and costing activities within NLHF Activity plans.
  • Experience of planning activities with internal staff teams, external audiences, and of developing activities for disadvantaged groups and those who may find it difficult to access or benefit from heritage, culture and/or nature projects.
  • Strong understanding of equality, diversity, inclusion (EDI) and access, in relation to all aspects of the project in line with Towner’s Audience Development planning.
  • Capacity and flexibility to commence the assignment in April 2026 and available through to submission in May 2027.
