Job Description

The Theatre Operations Manager will play a key role in the safe, efficient and professional day-to-day operation of Phoenix Theatre Blyth. The postholder will coordinate the theatre programme and operational requirements, working closely with visiting companies, promoters, artists, contractors, volunteers and staff to ensure performances and events are delivered to a high standard.
The role will oversee front of house and bar operations, ensuring appropriate staffing, excellent customer service and a welcoming experience for audiences. The postholder will also manage operational arrangements for productions, including the annual pantomime, coordinating requirements with creative teams, performers and visiting personnel from preparation through to completion.
Key responsibilities include maintaining schedules and operational documentation, supporting the smooth running of the building, identifying operational risks and taking appropriate action to ensure performances proceed safely and effectively.
The Theatre Operations Manager will help ensure the building remains safe, secure, clean and fit for purpose, supporting compliance with health and safety, licensing and fire safety requirements. They will report defects and maintenance issues, liaise with contractors and maintain appropriate operational records and procedures.
The postholder will provide direction and support to front of house, bar and operational staff, assisting with rotas, deployment and planning while promoting a positive, professional and inclusive working environment.
A strong customer and community focus is essential. The postholder will respond professionally to customer queries and complaints and help ensure the Phoenix remains an accessible and valued community venue.
The role requires excellent organisation, communication and problem-solving skills, a practical and proactive approach, and the ability to manage competing priorities calmly under pressure. Flexibility to work evenings/weekends

Job Requirements

Essential requirements:
Experience in theatre, arts, entertainment, hospitality, events or similar operational setting.
Experience coordinating staff, events and daily operational activity.
Excellent communication, administration and interpersonal skills.
Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure.
Strong practical problem-solving skills and initiative.
Good IT and organisational skills, with strong attention to detail.
Commitment to excellent customer service and safety standards.
Willingness to work evenings, weekends and performance periods.
Desirable experience:
Front of house/bar and production or event management experience.
Working with visiting companies, artists or promoters.
Knowledge of theatre licensing, health and safety or building operations.
Experience working with volunteers or community
