Job Description

We are looking for an experienced and organised Wardrobe Assistant with excellent costume maintenance skills and a calm, practical approach to supporting performers throughout rehearsals and performances.

Essential experience and skills include:

Proven experience as a Dresser, Wardrobe Assistant, or similar role on theatre productions and/or tours
Experience supporting performers with costume changes, including quick changes during performance
Strong costume maintenance skills, including hand and machine sewing, repairs, laundering and garment care
Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain costume continuity throughout the run
Ability to work calmly and efficiently under pressure in a live performance environment
Good understanding of backstage etiquette and performer care
Strong organisational skills and ability to manage wardrobe paperwork, costume tracking and maintenance schedules
Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with stage management, wardrobe teams and performers
Positive, proactive and flexible approach to problem solving
Understanding of health & safety practices in a theatrical environment
Willingness to tour extensively throughout the UK and Ireland
Ability to work evenings, weekends and public holidays as dictated by the performance schedule

Desirable
Experience working on large-scale touring productions
Basic costume-making or alteration skills
Experience with period costume maintenance and care

Job Responsibilities

Support the Head of Wardrobe and Deputy Head of Wardrobe in maintaining a safe, organised and efficient department
Prepare and maintain all assigned costumes to performance standard
Assist performers with dressing and costume changes, including quick changes during performances
Carry out daily checks, repairs, cleaning and maintenance of costumes, footwear and accessories
Ensure costumes are preset correctly before each performance
Maintain accurate costume and laundry records as required
Assist with wardrobe get-ins and get-outs at touring venues
Uphold costume continuity and presentation standards throughout the tour
Work closely with performers and the wider production team to ensure the smooth running of performances
