Job Summary

St Mary’s in Cleeton, South Shropshire was built in 1874 for the local rural and industrial community and this project is designed to develop this Grade II listed building to become more relevant to and continue to play its part in the community, as well as being a resource for visitors and schools

Job Description

Cleeton St Mary PCC are seeking to contract an experienced textile artist to play a crucial part in our A Common Treasury project.
working effectively with a team of professionals and other appointed contractors, staff, and
volunteers
bringing members of the community together to create high quality artwork
providing a focus for the creation of a textile work for the church and community reflecting local place names
bringing locals together for workshops that celebrate the rich heritage present in our community
showing how the church can be the focus for community activity and performance
creating powerful textile work which will help interpret the area’s heritage
engaging a wide audience (arts, nature, history) through combining arts and heritage
bringing partners together through shared workshops
The person appointed will be contracted to:
– Work with the local community to devise a textile installation for the church.
– Develop and share skills through a workshop with locals and other local stitching groups.
Work when required to assist group members with technical and design aspects of the installation
Co-ordinate the production of the final work with participants, ensuring the themes are articulated and consistent aesthetic is maintained.
– Provide all material and data requested by the Project Evaluator for evaluation reports during & at the end of the contract period

Skills & Person Specification:
– Experienced in broad range of textile work
– Experience of working in a heritage environment with the local community
– Experience of engaging with people from a range of backgrounds
– Confident to work in public and ability to work on own initiative.
A team player with the drive and confidence to also work independently
Experience and track record of working on NLHF and other grants funded projects.
DBS is required

Job Requirements

– Existing material will be available for research, inspiration; local
histories, scrapbooks, oral histories and local knowledge.
– Contractors, appointed Professionals, other staff and volunteers will be expected to engage with
the textile artist where requested
– The PCC, Project Lead and HEC will be available for discussions.

– The contract will be let by the PCC of St Mary’s, Cleeton St Mary and financially managed by a finance officer of Hereford Diocese.
– Start to be August 2026
– time to be worked flexibly to deliver the contract; invoices to be submitted on a monthly basis
accompanied by a timesheet
all expenses to be backed up with receipts and invoices
Copyright of completed work will belong to the PCC
Image rights will be shared between the PCC and the artist
