Job Summary

We are looking for a Lead Chaperone, who will work with a team made up of licenced professional and volunteer chaperones. This role is working with children and young people and ensuring their safety and wellbeing is paramount to the role. Must hold a valid, professional chaperone licence.

Job Description

The Lead Chaperone to be available and onsite for all Young Company rehearsals, production weeks and performances from Monday 26th October 2026 – Sunday 3rd January 2026.
Liaising between Company Stage Manager / Producer re. Call times and other information relating to production.
Creating a chaperone plot for the production in consultation with Stage Management and other chaperones. (Plot to be copied into show bible at end of run).
Keeping accurate records in accordance with the children’s performance license – the ‘Daily Record Sheet’, noting the duration and timing of rehearsals & performances including all breaks, time spent at the venue, waiting times, overnight breaks and to note and report any other observations or concerns for the child. These documents should be filed securely in the chaperone file at the end of each day. It is a requirement that these records are kept and made available, along with the child’s performance license at every place of performance/rehearsal when a child is present for inspection of a Local Authority Officer and that it is kept securely when not in use with Stage Management or at Stage Door. The recording of this data can be delegated to other chaperones as required.
Ensuring enough chaperones are present and that there is adequate supervision of the children, especially when split between dressing rooms, stage and any breakout spaces.
Working with the Company Stage Manager and liaising with all parents/carers in regard to all rehearsals and performances and any last minute schedule changes affecting the children.
Confidently contacting and working alongside parents/carers should any behavioural, anxiety or personal issues arise.
Ensure that arrangements and travel plans for handing children over to a child’s parent or designated carer are clear for each child at the end of each session.
Ensuring any necessary medical welfare plans are put in place.

Job Requirements

The Lead Chaperone attendance is required for all rehearsals from 26th October through to the final show call on Sunday 3rd January 2027.

The Lead Chaperone will work with a team comprised of licenced professional and volunteer chaperones and will ensure all follow the current regulations and guidance in performing their duties.

Chaperones will work in collaboration with the child and their parent/guardian, the Stage Management team, Production team and the Local Authority.

Chaperones must adhere to all guidelines issued under a performance license, the Kingston Theatre Trust (KTT) Safeguarding Policy, NNCEE, any other statutory Chaperone Guidance and follow best working practice and ensure they know the name of the KTT Safeguarding Lead and the process for reporting any issues or concerns (outlined in the KTT Safeguarding Policy).

Must hold a valid, professional chaperone licence.
