This role supports the effective and safe operation of all technical activity across the National Centre. The Technical Lead works in partnership with the Senior Technical Manager and wider Operations team to ensure studios are professionally prepared, equipment is maintained and compliant, and technical support is responsive to the needs of students, staff, professional members and external users.
The post holder plays a central role in managing circus and rigging equipment, including statutory inspections (LOLER/PUWER), record-keeping and liaison with external contractors. They are a key member of the production team for in-house performances, events and occasional off-site projects, offering both technical and creative input.
In the absence of the Senior Technical Manager, the Technical Lead acts as the responsible person for the safe and effective delivery of all technical requirements.
Job Requirements
We are seeking an experienced technician with demonstrable experience of working with technical and circus equipment in a performance, production or training environment. You will have a strong understanding of rigging and working at height, experience supporting live events or productions, and a practical approach to health and safety.
You will be confident advising performers, students and colleagues on technical requirements, able to manage competing demands, and comfortable working both independently and as part of a collaborative team. An interest in circus arts, education or live performance is essential.
Relevant rigging or working-at-height qualifications are required. Experience of lighting, sound, AV or temporary electrical installations is desirable.
