Ark Music
Job Summary
Job Description
Teaching Artists are established music educators who bring a high level of artistry and well-developed educational practice and pedagogy. They have a deep understanding of the Ark Schools Music Programme and our approach to inclusive music making. Teaching Artists share Ark’s belief that all pupils can be musicians regardless of their background and consistently deliver work of the highest quality, leading to excellent musical results.
Teaching Artists are able to: work independently to plan and lead classes, rehearsals and workshops; share practice with school teachers; and offer training/support to less-experienced artists and early career artists (Music Mentors). Teaching Artists may be invited to take a leading role in the design and content of event days and programmes of study for our pupils (such as network ensembles, creative workshops, our “One Voice” choral strategy etc.)
Job Requirements
You will deliver curriculum teaching (instrumental) across 30 weeks, 60mins p/week – arranging this around your availability in collaboration with the school/school(s). Placements are available across all of London.
Ark Music weights fees heavily towards the first three hours of a call to ensure Teaching Artists booked for shorter placements receive above-average compensation. After the third hour, Artists are paid a flat hourly rate.
For a one-hour call (e.g. in a school that only requires two 30-minute lessons p/week)
A Teaching Artist (based in London) would be paid at £66.
A Teaching Artist (out of London) would be paid at £58.
Guaranteed hours
A placement will be a minimum of one hour p/week across term time (30 weeks p/academic year).
You will be offered additional placements as/when schools request provision, but are not mandated to take on any work offered.
