Community Focus

Job Summary

Community Focus Inclusive Arts seeks a freelance Inclusive Choir Tutor to lead an exciting new choir project in Barnet, funded by the National Lottery. Supporting disabled adults through song. £90/session. Saturdays, term-time. Start April 2026.

Job Description

Community Focus Inclusive Arts is a disabled-led creative organisation based in Friary Park, Barnet. For almost fifty years, we have championed creativity as a tool for confidence, connection and wellbeing, supporting disabled and neurodivergent people to build skills, agency and community.

We are recruiting a freelance Inclusive Choir Tutor to lead a brand-new project, made possible by a £300,000 National Lottery Reaching Communities grant. This is an exciting opportunity to shape something from the ground up: building a welcoming space where participants can find their voice, develop musical confidence, and connect with others through song.

The Community Focus Choir will run on Saturday mornings, 11am to 1pm, as part of our In-House Programme for adults with learning disabilities, mental health needs and other support requirements. We are looking for a tutor who can bring creativity and structure to the programme, with a vision for how the choir develops over time. We are particularly interested in tutors who can think thematically across terms, building a growing repertoire that participants can be genuinely proud of, and working towards performances at Community Focus events.

You will have the freedom to shape the musical direction of the choir, in collaboration with our Public Programmes Manager and the participants themselves.

The role is freelance and sessional, running term-time across three 11-week terms a year, with the possibility of additional summer sessions by mutual agreement.

Rate: £90 per session (covering 2 hours delivery and 1 hour preparation).

Start date: Saturday 25th April 2026.Our vision is simple: everyone is an artist. If you believe in the power of creativity to transform lives and want to help build something new, we would love to hear from you.

Job Requirements

We are looking for an experienced choir director, singing tutor or music facilitator with a track record of working with disabled or neurodivergent adults. You will need the ability to plan engaging, themed programmes that build skill and repertoire progressively, alongside a creative, flexible and person-centred approach to teaching.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as is a genuine commitment to inclusive practice. An up-to-date enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one) is required.
Desirable: a qualification in music, music education or community arts; experience co-designing programmes or repertoire with participants; knowledge of the Social Model of Disability; and experience working towards performance outcomes with community groups.
