Job Summary

The Lead Technician will deliver lighting, sound and stage support for performances and events in our 130-seat theatre and creative community hub. You’ll work with visiting artists, hire clients, and our community, and oversee the maintenance and safety of the of the theatre’s technical equiptment.

Job Description

Chelsea Theatre is seeking a skilled and collaborative Lead Technician to support the delivery of performances, events and venue hires in our vibrant West London theatre and community hub.

Located on the World’s End Estate in Chelsea, Chelsea Theatre is a flexible 130-seat producing and receiving venue with rehearsal studios, meeting rooms, exhibition space and a lively caf , bar and terrace. We welcome over 100 visitors per day and reach 6,000+ people each year through free community activities and our youth creative development programme, as well as thousands more through our busy programme of performances, talks and events.

The Lead Technician is responsible for the delivery of technical support for performances, events and venue hires across the theatre. You will provide technical advice to visiting artists and hire clients in advance of events and ensure the safe and effective delivery of lighting, sound and stage operations on the day.

Alongside event delivery, the role oversees the maintenance and safety of technical equipment across the venue, including organising annual PAT testing and maintaining equipment inventories and safety records.

Working in a small and collaborative team, the Lead Technician will support a wide range of activity including performances, rehearsals, community events and commercial hires.

Job Requirements

We are looking for someone with experience working as a technician in a theatre, arts venue or live events environment who is comfortable working independently in a small venue.

You will have practical experience with theatre lighting and sound systems and be confident supporting visiting artists, community groups and hire clients.

Strong organisational skills, attention to safety and the ability to manage multiple events are essential.

The role is minimum 21 hours per week (0.6 FTE) with flexibility required around evening and weekend events. Additional hours may be available depending on programme and event demand.
