The Royal College of Music (RCM) is seeking an inspiring and highly skilled Vocal Studies professor to join our world leading Vocal & Opera Faculty. This position offers a unique opportunity to work with exceptional young singers from around the globe, helping them to realise their artistic and technical potential. As a key member of our professorial team, you will deliver outstanding one to one vocal teaching and occasionally group coaching. You will bring a passion for nurturing talent, a deep understanding of vocal pedagogy, and the ability to guide students in developing healthy, expressive, and resilient vocal technique. We are looking for an accomplished teacher with experience working with gifted students at undergraduate and postgraduate level-ideally within a conservatoire environment. Excellent communication skills, empathy, and a collaborative mindset are essential, as is a strong awareness of the demands of the contemporary music profession. This post is offered on a permanent, part-time basis and is available from September 2026. The expected working hours for a Vocal Studies professor are 90 mins of 1 to 1 singing lessons per student per week. Job Requirements

Experience of teaching gifted and talented students at undergraduate and postgraduate level, preferably gained within a Conservatoire environment The ability to teach, coach, mentor and improve skills in the context of individual and where requested, group lessons Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Global perspective and good international contacts An understanding of the demands of the music profession Empathy Patience Team player A relevant Higher Education qualification in Vocal Studies, music performance or equivalent Academic teaching qualification such as the Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education or Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) A SEDA-accredited teaching qualification or equivalent An outstanding performing career as a soloist An established performer or artist with a substantial or developing track record, internationally recognised as a world-leading or potentially work-leading talent
