Job Description
Due to the nature of the work with our members the role needs to be carried out in person and is not suitable for remote working.
We particularly encourage people of the global majority to apply, as well as people with lived experience of mental ill health.
Due to current demand, there are significant waiting list for 121 music tuition and production sessions. The open music jam session is also close to capacity. This role will support timely and specific interventions to the members who need us most.
Salary: £20.70 / hour
Hours: 7 hours per week, preferably spread over 2 days
Key responsibilities:
To work with clients with mental health problems in individual and group music sessions, helping them to achieve and create through live music and music production.
To enable our members to progress on their creative journeys.
To provide 121 sessions in music production, instrument tuition, vocal coaching, lyric writing.
To assist and lead members to from a new band and perform at Sound Minds and external gigs.
To run group sessions in song writing.
To work across a range of genres.
To communicate well with the members and users and demonstrate a helpful and friendly attitude at all times.
To maintain good relationships with other staff and members and to show sensitivity to their support needs, aspirations and creative direction, regardless of ability.
To promote respect, tolerance and understanding for the beliefs, cultures of members, volunteers and staff.
Job Requirements
Person spec:
Lived experience of mental ill health
Experience of working with people with mental health problems in any setting
Experienced musician with music production skills
Experience in facilitating group sessions in music making such as band rehearsal and song writing.
Teaching or training experience
Recognised course in music or music technology
Able to play at least one musical instrument
Knowledge of music production and at least one Digital Audio Workstation.
A strong understanding of music technology including recording and live work.
Caring attitude towards people living with long term mental ill health and an understanding or how this role supports the needs of people with mental health issues
A commitment to working to improve access to music-making by global majority communities.
A commitment to Sound Minds’ Inclusion Policy and Safeguarding Policy.
