About the role
Archives & Modern Manuscripts is part of Special Collections at the Bodleian Libraries, caring for a wide range of archives and modern manuscripts, including born-digital material.
You will support the practical processing, preservation and cataloguing of archive collections. Working closely with archivists, you will play an active role in collection moves, ensuring the safe, accurate and efficient transfer and storage of archival material. You will also repackage materials, create and update collection records, and assist with listing and indexing work using library systems.
The role includes regular and frequent manual handling, working in storage areas, and occasional van driving. You will also support digital archive processing, reader services and other team activities as required. Full training will be provided and prior archive experience is not essential.
These are full-time, fixed-term posts for 12 months.
Due to the nature of this post, the successful candidate will be required to undertake a satisfactory Basic Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and driving licence check.
Job Requirements
About You
You will be organised, accurate and comfortable working with detailed information. You will have good general IT skills, including experience using spreadsheets or databases, and you will approach the handling of original documents with care and sensitivity.
You will be self-motivated, able to manage your workload effectively and work both independently and as part of a team. Strong communication skills and a flexible, proactive approach are important.
