Job Description

Position: Full-time with a 3-month probation period

Japanese Gallery Kensington, a specialist in Japanese art and antiques and anime memorabilia, is seeking a gallery assistant with a passion for Japan and its culture.

During your initial three-month probationary period, we will provide training and review your performance on a monthly basis. Upon successful completion of the training to a satisfactory level, you may be offered a permanent position.

The closing date for applications is 5:00pm on 28 February 2026. The role offers a starting salary at the National Minimum Wage, currently £12.21 per hour for age 21 and over.

Job Requirements

  • Interest and basic knowledge of Japanese art and culture

  • Basic knowledge and understanding of web development coding languages such as JavaScript, PHP, and/or Python.

  • Proficient IT skills, including MS Office, Google Suite, and online marketplace product uploads

Job Responsibilities

  • Experience managing website content, basic CMS platforms, and digital catalogues

  • Familiarity with image editing software (e.g. Photoshop) for resizing and preparing artwork images

  • Confident use of email platforms, cloud-based file management, and digital record keeping

  • Processing newly acquired stock and maintaining accurate digital inventories

  • Providing a high standard of in-person and online customer service

  • Excellent organisational and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team

  • Providing general administrative support

  • Dispatching orders worldwide and generating shipping documentation

  • Providing production and logistical support for gallery events and activities

  • Intermediate level of Japanese language
