Job Summary

The OSO Arts Centre is looking for a Lighting and Sound Designer for its next in-house production, the play ‘Blue/Orange’ by Joe Penhall.

Job Description

Following last year’s previous critically-acclaimed productions of Things I Know to be True and Enigma Variations, the OSO Arts Centre presents its next in-house production: the Olivier-winning Blue/Orange, written by acclaimed playwright Joe Penhall.

Christopher has been confined to a psychiatric ward for a month. He wants out. The problem is he still thinks oranges are blue. A junior psychiatrist, convinced he needs help, wants to section him. The senior consultant thinks it’s all a question of culture: at home in Shepherd’s Bush, Christopher will be amongst ‘his people’. And besides, it costs taxpayers’ money to keep Christopher in care…

Directed by OSO Artistic Director Lydia Sax (Enigma Variations, Things I Know to be True, Revlon Girl, Once Upon a Bridge) and produced by Jamie Rycroft (Getting Through It, The Sound Collector, The Play Lottery).

We are looking for a lighting and sound designer who will be able to bring the world of Blue/Orange to life. The Designer will be responsible for all aspects of designing and programming the lighting and sound for the show, including sourcing sounds, focusing and programming lights, and creating a marked-up tech script that can be handed over to the show’s technical operator.

Pay: An hourly rate of £14.25 per hour, inclusive of holiday pay, with an expected maximum number of hours of 90 hours across the project. Hours will be tracked by the Producer in discussion with the Designer.

Key Dates

  • Regular production and design meetings between now and rehearsals
  • Readthrough and design presentation: 9th April
  • Rehearsals: 10th-23rd April
  • Get-in and technical rehearsals: 26th – 28th April
  • Opening night: 29th April
  • Get-out: 10th-11th May
