Lost Scriptures is a new Heritage Lottery supported project aiming to tell the story of the early years of Birmingham’s Hip Hop heritage for the first time, shedding new light on the international influence, the political nexus and the local idiosyncrasies of the Birmingham Hip Hop scene, 1985-2000.

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Oral Histories Consultant / Lead Researcher to initially support our team in the planning and structuring the delivery of the project, then moving on to lead our research team in capturing a range of oral histories covering our target periods, themes, personalities and moments.

£300 per day, 30 days, expected 7.5 hours per day

Job Requirements

Essential

  • Significant experience recording interviews in a heritage context in a formal context
  • Ability to make people from a range of different backgrounds feel comfortable and confident being recorded and sharing their own experiences.
  • Ability to record interviews to a high standard, taking the lead on both recording processes and content to ensure the quality of both.
  • Either based in Birmingham or willing to travel regularly to record the majority of interviews in the area.
  • Empathy and sensitivity to issues around ethnicity, criminal justice, gender, sexuality, mental health and discrimination.
  • Confident in the use of professional-standard audio recording equipment.
  • Patience, attention to detail, and care for participants.

Desirable

  • Experience of planning a project in a heritage context
  • Experience of teaching, facilitating or sharing expertise to upskill participants
  • Experience of line management supporting people to work toward a shared outcome.
