Job Description

Within the Arts Students’ Union, the Arts Programme Team’s core aim is to deliver a programme of opportunities for students to enhance their professional creative practice. Our aim is to support students in managing their learning and growth throughout their time studying at UAL and beyond.

The role of Arts Programmer will manage a schedule of professional development activity for students. The role will deliver on activities such as exhibitions, workshops, talks, demonstrations – all with the goal of increasing understanding of the basic principles of becoming a professional creative, building confidence, providing real professional experiences, as well as developing skillsets.

Some of the themes this role will be exploring with students this year are:

  • Arts and Business – financial literacy and independence
  • Arts and Technology
  • Connection and Collaboration – networking and mentoring
  • Exhibition Management – leading part of our Project Space programme, as well as supporting our Sabbatical Officers to host liberation exhibitions

These themes are reviewed every year, dependent on the current needs of students.

This programme will be achieved by working with partners, freelancers , and organisations to host events exploring their lived experiences, their knowledge in the sector, and delivering expert advice to our students. As well as some activity being delivered in-house utilising the team’s existing knowledge and experience in the cultural sector.

The newly appointed Arts Programmer will develop a schedule of events for the year, manage external partner relationships, as well as develop new partnerships to benefit the programme, and actively listen to student feedback to shape the programme. The role will require managing project budgets, creating marketing content alongside our Marketing and Communications team, and producing timely reports and reviews on project progress.
