Job Description
The Company
City Youth Theatre (CYT) is a new initiative developed by the City of London School for Girls (CLSG). This year, the programme is open to pupils in Year 6 – Year 9 (ages 10 to 14), from CLSG, City Junior School (CJS) and City of London School (CLS). We aim to accept all applicants, unless numbers exceed capacity, in which case we will audition for entry. Specific solo and featured roles are auditioned in the first few weeks of rehearsals.
The Role
We are looking for someone to join the production team as Production and Stage Manager for City Youth Theatre’s inaugural production, Annie: The Musical. The post-holder will have a demonstrated ability in managing productions, ideally large-scale musical productions, and will liaise regularly with students, parents, City of London School for Girls (CLSG) Drama Department staff, and external partners. The ideal candidate will have arts administration experience as well as experience working with youth, preferably within theatre/performing arts disciplines. The Production and Stage Manager will report to the CLSG Director of Drama.
This role is a 10-month fixed term contract from January to October. This term length includes all technical and dress rehearsals as well as 3 or 4 show calls.
This post has a flat fee of £1,800, including show calls and get in/get out (approx. 90hrs).
Job Requirements
- Have prior experience with managing large productions
- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrate enthusiasm for supporting young people
- Demonstrate excellent time management and leadership skills
- Demonstrate flexibility and the ability to collaborate with other creatives in pursuit of a common goal
- Be comfortable working with a company size between 25 to 40 pupils
- Supervise large groups of students aged 10 – 14 (Years 6-9) during breaks and meal breaks during show run
- Demonstrate experience with the Microsoft Office programmes would be beneficial.
Job Responsibilities
- Coordinate flow of information between production departments
- Create rehearsal and technical schedules
- Overseeing show calls for cast and stage management team
- Manage pupil stage management team to ensure they are equipped to deliver the responsibilities of their roles
- Work with Set and Costume Designers to source, buy, and maintain show props/furniture/set dressing/costumes
- Ensure Production departments adhere to Production timeline
- Run stage once the show has begun performances, and manage any show stops or emergency situations
- Ensure production meeting minutes are taken
- Create a prompt/show book that is used to call the show and can be easily read by others (in the event of SM illness or emergency)
- Monitor budget whilst maintaining artistic quality and vision and technical practicalities
- Other Production and Stage Management duties as required (determined through clear communication with Artistic & Production teams and CLSG Drama Department)
