We are seeking an energetic and highly motivated individual with excellent interpersonal skills to join the team at Gainsborough’s House, the leading public art gallery in Suffolk.

Job Description

The Front of House (FoH) Duty Manager and Volunteer Coordinator will help form part of a dynamic team who provide an excellent visitor experience. Working as part of a team of three Duty Managers, you will be jointly responsible for managing the day-to-day operation of all public-facing activities. You will be responsible for line managing FoH and/or retail assistants. You will manage the rota, database, training and liaison of our team of volunteers. As a team, you will be responsible for compliance at Gainsborough’s House working closely with colleagues in facilities management and curatorial. You will provide a warm and welcoming greeting, helping museums visitors orientate themselves and generally give them the information they need to ensure they have an enjoyable and memorable visit. You must excel at engaging with people and be friendly, professional and enjoy working directly with the public. You will be responsible for evacuation procedures; and will be trained as a first aider and fire marshal.

Job Requirements

  • Service and public facing role experience
  • Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal
  • Confidence in using till & digital systems
  • Demonstrable experience of working effectively as part of a team
  • Integrity, diplomacy and professional skills to work effectively and to consult as appropriate
  • GCSE grade A-D (Level 3 and above) in English, Maths and ICT
  • Reliable and positive attitude
  • Willingness to work regular weekends, and some evenings and Bank Holidays
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with people at all levels
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to work under pressure, dealing with peaks of activity and deploying resources effectively to meet deadlines
  • Organised and flexible approach
  • Interest in galleries and museums
