Job Summary
Working with the Head of Lighting & Video, their assistants, and local crew, this staff member will help with the day to day of running a large scale musical to maintain the excellence of the show. The Deputy Head will be a video specialist.
Job Description
Responsibilities and Duties
- Operate video for performances, replicating the show’s design.
- Perform daily setup, oversee video rig checks, and provide clear communication within the lighting team.
- Responsible for maintaining and repairing all aspects of the video system as dictated by the artistic requirements and under the direction of the Production Manager and Creative Team.
- Assist the Head of Lighting & Video to create accurate production paperwork and ensure the efficient flow of information as necessary for the smooth running of the show.
- Assist the Head of Lighting & Video to teach new members of staff, deps and local crews and work closely with theatre staff to ensure the smooth running of the production.
- Handle any problems that occur during performances quickly and calmly.
- Report and feedback show and staff related issues in a timely manner.
- Ensure all video equipment is cleaned so they are in working order for each performance.
- Assist the Head of Lighting & Video, liaising between Company Manager, Technical departments, Creative Team, Production and General Management Teams and local venue staff to ensure the smooth running of all rehearsals and performances.
- Ensure an awareness of understudy and swing performances ahead of each show and make necessary adjustments.
- Attend technical, dress and understudy rehearsals as required.
- Attend weekly head of department meetings in the absence of the Head of Lighting & Video.
- Work in accordance with the Health and Safety Policy and maintain an excellent working knowledge of all relevant health and safety legislation and good working practices, liaising closely with Disney’s Health and Safety Manager to ensure that the Health and Safety Policy is followed.
Job Requirements
Skills Required
- Experience working in video within the entertainment sector (Theatre/Rock and Roll or Television/Film).
- Experience in a similar role within a large-scale musical production.
- Knowledge of setting up, maintaining and operating of video systems
- Knowledge of current video / projection systems.
- Ability to work at height.
- Knowledge and understanding of H&S legislation such as LOLER, PUWER and WAH.
- Clear, confident communication and decision making essential.
- Ability to remain focused and calm when under pressure.
- Excellent relationship and interpersonal skills with cast, creative and production team essential
- Transparent and open approach, be able to work well under pressure, enjoy leading from the front, and by example.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and use of own initiative.
- A full awareness of need for integrity and confidentiality.
