Job Requirements
Project Context – Active Minutes
Active Minutes is a new immersive experience for 20 participants, set in a group exercise studio and led by a fictional fitness instructor (you!). The piece explores how we define ability, how competition affects us, and how we measure success-especially in group settings.
Participants wear smartphones in armbands and use bone-conducting headphones. They’re scored, sorted, grouped, and ranked (sometimes unfairly) via a custom-built, app-free smartphone platform, NAIAD. The tech delivers everything from personal training feedback to surprise moments-like a mystery fart during the warm-up.
Phones are both a tool and a tension point in the experience. Their use is limited but integrated into the story. The piece begins like a standard workout and shifts into something entirely unexpected.
