Global Action Plan is looking for emerging film makers / or team to create a short 2–3-minute documentary and 2 x accompanying teasers, capturing the impact of the Good Life Schools programme in our three Good Life Schools areas: South Wales, North East England and South Yorkshire and the Midlands

Job Description

Are you looking to craft films for clients but lack the experience? This mentoring scheme is an opportunity for an emerging film maker to develop skills through making a short documentary film under the guidance and support of an established filmmaker. With one-to-one mentoring sessions, you will be guided on how to tell the most impactful story for a specific target audience, and how to manage client relationships.

Through a blend of interviews, observational filming and utilising user-generated content, you’ll bring to life the stories of young people and their local communities and showcase the impact of Good Life Schools.

The programme strengthens the relationship between schools and their local communities, supporting everyone to live and learn in ways that benefit both people and planet. The programme is working with communities in three regions of the UK – South Wales, North East England, and South Yorkshire and the Midlands.

Good Life Schools is funded by the National Lottery Community Fund.

This is a mentoring and training scheme for emerging film makers. We are specifically looking for film makers with limited or no client experience. If you feel you would benefit from the guidance and mentorship of an experienced filmmaker, then this is for you.

Job Requirements

We’re looking for an emerging film maker who has:

  • A talent in crafting compelling narratives
  • Some experience of making documentary and/or work that focuses on the voices of young people
  • An open, collaborative way of working with young people to ensure their voices are leading the film(s)
  • Ability to capture engaging footage, interviews and incorporate user-generated content (UGC) in the film in a creative and compelling way
  • Access to professional video and audio equipment to document the project
  • Good communication skills (you will be required to communicate with the school to brief young people to capture UGC and to identify filming opportunities)
  • Ability to get to schools within the area of either Durham, and Redcar and Cleveland; Leicester and Sheffield; or Merthyr Tydfil and Carmarthenshire, up to 8 x short filming sessions in the 2025-2026 academic year
