Job Summary
Job Description
We’re opening The Jag Studio
‘See It First’ is a programme of new work, workshops, and conversations between artists and audiences, produced by Belgrade Theatre in the heart of Coventry.
This year the packed programme will feature the opening of the Belgrade’s new studio theatre space, The Jaguar. And we’re opening it.
This is your opportunity to be one of the first shows to be performed in this exciting new hub for emerging theatre in Coventry. We’re buzzing to be back for more scratch nights in 2025, and to welcome artists into the Belgrade Theatre. We’re looking for brand new pieces of theatre by working/under-class artists in & around Coventry. Applications are open now and will close at midnight, 27th June.
What’s on offer?
-
20-30mins performance slot at The Jaguar
-
Paid travel costs (public transport reimbursed in full, fuel coverage capped at 40p/per mile)
-
Robust audience feedback, plus professional feedback from Blindspot Nights & Belgrade Theatre
-
Support to invite industry to see your show
-
Photo & video of your show
-
4hrs development time with Blindspot Nights to work toward next steps (this might be an ACE funding bid, planning an R&D, or further dramaturgical support – it’s completely up to you.) This is in addition to an opportunity to discuss your work with Belgrade Associate Director, Jay Zorenti-Nakhid.
-
Equity day-rate of £126pd for 2x days, for a total fee of £252pp
(This breaks down roughly into the following, where 0.5d = 4hrs:
0.5d Rehearsal at Belgrade
0.5d Event day (includes tech plot + sharing, with break in between)
0.5d Development time
0.5d to cover any marketing tasks – such as video interviews for press/socials – that may be asked of you to support your work) -
Even if we don’t select your work, every applicant receives feedback
Job Requirements
Who & what we’re looking for:
-
We exist to support working/under-class artists in theatre, so please don’t apply if this isn’t you.
-
We support theatremakers who are based in/around Coventry – you might be based here, or within a 35mi radius of the city.
-
Work should be new and not have been produced before. It can be at any stage of development, in any form, and should be suitable for a stripped-back, black-box setting.
-
We aren’t looking for poetry or spoken-word readings, but a theatre/performance piece that is written in this style is fine.
-
Work should be between 20-30 minutes long.
-
Up to 5 people – This isn’t just people performing. If you have additional members of your team working off-stage you should include them in this number. E.g. However many are in your cast + the writer (if they’re not already performing on-stage) and director, if you have one.
