Job Summary

Assistant Curator, based at No.1 Royal Crescent, supporting all BPT collections, archives and library across four sites

Job Description

To support the Senior Curator and Curator in collections care and management, interpretation, exhibitions, and programming at No.1 Royal Crescent, Herschel Museum of Astronomy, Beckford’s Tower and Museum of Bath Architecture.

To oversee access to the BPT Archives and Library and related projects.

The main activities of the role are described below. This is not intended to be an exhaustive list of duties but a guide to the main priorities. The post holder may be required to undertake other duties and responsibilities compatible with the overall scope of the post. They are expected to use their judgement about priorities within the overall purpose of the role.

Job Requirements

Essential

Experience working in an accredited museum, gallery, archive or heritage setting with responsibility for collections management, environmental management, collections care and conservation

Taking a holistic and creative approach to revealing the meaning of collections and places for internal and external audiences, relating artefacts to a wider historical and contemporary understanding that is open, transparent and sensitive

Understanding and commitment to decolonising museums

Using collections database systems

Good communication, interpersonal and team skills

Working at pace and being decisive, prioritising work as required

Excellent IT skills

Desirable

Sound knowledge of Georgian aesthetic and social history

Knowledge of the visual and applied arts

Knowledge of exhibitions admin including loan agreements

Experience of providing public access to archive and/or library collections, overseeing use by researchers and image reproduction requests as appropriate
