Job Description

Role: Freelance Theatre Facilitator

We’re looking for multiple experienced theatre practitioners across all disciplines:

Acting & Movement

Directing & Devising

Technical Theatre (Sound, Lighting, AV)

Design & Construction (Props, Set, Costume)

Stage Management & Backstage Roles

You’ll lead creative workshops, mentor young people, and collaborate on student-led productions. Sessions typically run evenings or weekends in Worthing.

This is a casual freelance role, ideal for creatives with other commitments.

You’ll typically work around 2 hours per week, during evenings or weekends, depending on your availability and the needs of the programme.

We’re happy to be flexible – you may lead one-off sessions, short blocks, or termly commitments based on your skillset and schedule.

Fee

We offer a freelance rate of £25-£35 per hour, based on experience, prep time, and delivery responsibilities

Knowledge of theatre production & performance

DBS and safeguarding training (or willingness to obtain)

Job Requirements

  • Demonstrable experience leading or assisting in drama, theatre, or creative arts workshops
    (this can include community settings, education, or professional projects)

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with young people aged 12-25

  • A positive, flexible, and youth-focused approach to facilitation

  • Working knowledge of theatre practice in at least one area (e.g. acting, tech, stagecraft, directing)

  • Commitment to inclusivity, safeguarding, and collaborative practice

  • Enhanced DBS certificate (or willingness to obtain one)

  • Safeguarding training (can be provided if needed

Job Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver engaging drama-based workshops and creative sessions for young people aged 12-25

  • Facilitate sessions in one or more of the following areas:
    Acting, Technical Theatre, Directing, Design, Stage Management, or related disciplines

  • Support young participants in developing their skills, confidence, and creative voice

  • Collaborate with the Stage Makers lead and wider creative team to ensure sessions are inclusive, safe, and tailored to the group

  • Provide guidance during rehearsals or creative processes leading up to youth-led showcases

  • Be punctual, reliable, and communicate clearly with Drama Hub Sussex and young people

  • Model respectful, inclusive, and creative behaviour in every interaction
