Job Description

Icon is searching for a dynamic, creative and passionate Community Engagement Manager to join our small, dedicated team. This role offers a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping our Creative Engagement Programme, working closely with our Artistic Director, Nancy Hirst.

Our ideal candidate is not only experienced in managing community and youth theatre programmes but also brings a strategic mindset and exceptional planning and organisational skills. This is a crucial role where your creativity and leadership will directly impact the lives of the communities and young people we engage with.

In this position, you’ll have the chance to develop high-profile, nationally recognised projects that push boundaries of where theatre should happen and who it is for. You’ll collaborate with a diverse range of partners and participants, from local communities to national arts organisations, all while helping to shape the future of socially engaged theatre and participatory arts.

Icon is based in Medway, just 30 miles (or 45 minutes by train or car) from central London.

Job Requirements

Person Specification

Essential

  • Demonstrable experience managing performing arts projects working with young people, schools, and community groups
  • Experience in managing or working within co-creation environments.
  • A strong track record of successfully managing and delivering high-profile programmes, particularly those funded by Arts Council England (ACE).
  • Proven ability to recruit, lead, manage, and motivate teams, including freelance staff and volunteers, ensuring high performance and morale.
  • Solid financial skills with a proven ability to manage complex budgets, work to financial targets, and manage budgets effectively.
  • Current and practical understanding of safeguarding best practices and legislation, particularly concerning young people and vulnerable adults.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, tailored to a variety of audiences.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends, for which time off in lieu is given.
